Most of our students come to our school on Saturdays, but thanks to the participation of our foreign volunteers, we have been able to offer homeschooling options as well. During periods when we have native speakers available, we are able to send them to different students’ homes, so that kids can practice their speaking and listening skills with native speakers. This not only complements our students’ education but also provides a great opportunity for our volunteers. They are able to get a glimpse of an authentic Sri Lankan life and households, often playing games or sharing meals with the families. We quickly saw that not only were the students glad to be able to speak with native English speakers, but the volunteers were also glad to experience Sri Lankan culture, often creating meaningful friendships along the way.
