Our 2nd Center in Dewathura Village

Our 2nd Center in Dewathura Village
In 2019, five students came to our 1st educational center in Hingurukaduwa by tuk tuk from another village further up into the mountains. Through word of mouth, over the next couple of months, we found ourselves with up to 35 students coming from this same area to learn in our 1st center. However, due to the rain and poor quality of the road, after only six months these students were no longer able to come to school. Three months later they tried again and still, the road was not good enough to be able to make the commute. At the many requests from students and parents alike, our director Srimal Janaka decided to start going to this remote village by bike in order to fulfill his promise of bringing English and IT education to local, rural communities. Thankfully, a local family was able to provide a space to hold classes, and later, a family of Australian volunteers generously donated furniture and computers, providing many of the essentials in order to create Lak Aruna’s 2nd center. Today, thanks to the hard work of teachers, students, parents, and volunteers, we now have over 100 students attending school at this center, giving them opportunities that would have been unimaginable otherwise.
